Let’s talk lipsticks for a second. I’m sure most of us have tried a bajillion kinds. Lucky for you, I found THE lipstick and you have to try it. I’m sure you’ll love it.
First off, a little burn
Yearrrrrrssss ago (circa 1999) I got a sunburn on my lips. Bad. Remember those mini flavored lip balms? Some with shimmer in them? That you push up with your finger? Yeah, don’t use while boating ALL DAY. SPF instead, for sure. The burn lasted about a week. But took weeks to heal.
Even after healing, I noticed something weird about my lips. I could never wear lipstick after that. Even Chapstick. Burt’s Bees was ok, but I had to start making my own lip balm from scratch at home.
Otherwise, my lips would burn or peel or even bleed!! Years of trying different lip balms and every “new amazing” lipstick, years of just throwing them in the trash.
I found Lipsense a little over a year ago. At this point I knew nothing works so I was super hesitant to try it. Then again, not one to give up, I tried it, and I loved it. It still burned, and if I wore an entire day my lips would still peel. Overall though, it was pretty decent. You apply three layers, the first almost always burning. Don’t touch your lips together and let them dry in between layers. After the third layer you apply a gloss, this gloss you continue to apply throughout the day to keep the color in place and your lips hydrated. I continued to use it until about 3-4 months in when my lips started bleeding. At that point I got the hint. No more Lipsense. Back to homemade lip balm. It was kind of pricey anyway, so I wasn’t terribly upset over it. $25 per lip color and $20 per gloss. Yeah it could last forever, but makeup DOES expire ya know. So I’d have to throw it away before I ever used up a tube.
Now. Ohhhhhh now… recently I saw Maybelline Super Stay Matte Ink on a commercial (funny, we don’t have cable and I don’t watch much tv lol). I was intrigued. I prefer matte lipstick, I’d love a color to last all day and the colors looked gorgeous!! A quick trip to my local Target ended up not so quick. They were out of stock!!! I searched every spot (because you know some people are rude and just leave stuff in the wrong spot) and I even had the help of an employee stocking the beauty area. Lucky us, we found some on an end cap and I left with 2 colors, Lover and Fighter (total coincidence, the only two tubes left in the entire store!!)
I left excitedly and couldn’t wait to try my new lipstick!!!
When I got home I did my makeup, and this was my first color.
Ummm pretty amazing right? It’s the perfect shade of pink without being so pinky. Immediately HOOKED. Before even trying out fighter I just went ahead and bought 7 more. With these prices why not? (Amazon y’all! Order here!! Just select your color.)
Here is Fighter
And my fav so far, Ruler.
Here is my stash shot. Well, for now, I’m going to Ulta later, I hear they have an exclusive color!!!!! I’ve tried all of these so far except Pioneer (the red). I’m hoping to sneak a date night with my hubby soon and saving that for then 😉
What I think
Now down to business. What do I think about Maybelline Super Stay Matte Ink? On a scale of 1-10, I’d give it an overall 9. Why only 9? Well, I felt 8.5 was too low, and 10 was too high! Seriously though, I’m not a huge fan of the applicator, a lot of people love it, and I get its great for lining the lips, but it’s just awkward for me. I’m liking it more now than a few weeks ago, but still not my fav. That’s just my personal preference! And it might be kiss proof, but it’s not makeout proof. It does smudge with force. 😂 It still ranks higher than Lipsense for me.
Colors – The range of colors are great so far, it’s newer so I’d expect to see more colors coming out like the recent release of the UnNude collection. I think some fun bold colors would be so amazing for summer.
Application – Texture and consistency are surprisingly perfect. Most matte lipsticks leave me licking my lips all day, which is awful. Application was so creamy, I thought it was going to be sticky and thick, but once it dried it was more velvety. Not dry, but not super hydrating.
Side effects – A few weeks of use and my lips are normal. No burning, no peeling and absolutely no bleeding. Now that I think about it, I haven’t used my regular lip balm in almost 2 weeks.
Price – ummmm amazing. At just under $8 there’s really no complaint from me. At. All.
Stay power – Easter Sunday I applied at about 9am. We had lunch (dinner), I had soda, candy, talked, played with the kids, went outside to the park, ate some more, and it still looked amazing. I have an overbite and always have an issue of my waterline wearing off quickly, but I really didn’t have to touch up that until about 4pm. There was no transfer on my cup, or my dinner roll, no kisses on the baby’s head. Nada.
So…. sounds amazing right? Will you be getting some colors? Leave a comment if you currently have any or will be getting some soon. Also, tag me on Instagram if you post pics! I’d love to see these colors on you too!
Ok, gotta go to Ulta now. Wish me luck that my debit card doesn’t catch flames 😂
